Try cleaning connector contacts. Also, the later model E46 models have "ribbon" cables connecting the mirror motor to the harness in the door. These are fragile and can crack thereby causing an open circuit. They are not replaceable and you have to replace the mirror motor with the ribbon cable as a unit.
E39 2001 E39 - Dashboard Indicator not working. On the way home tonight I noticed that the indictor lamps on the dashboard were not working. Could not hear the relay either. Parked up and pressed the hazard lights and the lamps and relay were working. Tried the indicators with engine off and they worked again.
Intermittently, it will also turn from panic to regular indicator if I depress the brake peddle very hard. The strange thing too is I came out of work last night after a 12 hour shift and sitting in the parking lot is my BMW - obviously turned OFF - with all of the right sided lights on, except the head lights.
In my car (BMW E46 323I 1998) I have both connectors, that is, the 20-pin OBD1 and the OBD2, what is the difference between the two, I am referring rather to the functionality in my car, that is . OBD1: OBD2: With one I can somehow access the switchboard in a "deeper" way to the switchboard?
The internals are actually quite simple. The LCM really just consists of some power transistors (covered by a heatsink) and a micro-controller. The micro-controller contains both RAM and a custom ROM program preset for the car configuration; the controller can directly drive the outputs and monitor the check inputs.
Indicators on dash (turn signal indicators, warning flasher indicator, door open indicators, etc) don't work on my 2000 BMW E46 323i. The turn signals and warning flashers work on the exterior just no indicators on the instrument panel. I am also unable to bring up the OBC test sequence. Radio says "Disabled".

I replaced the bulbs and it still doesn't work, so it's not burned out bulbs as I had hoped. Didn't see that this is a common failure point, as I wasn't able to find any old threads on
1) Read through "List" of Modules in your Vehicle, HOWEVER Launch X431 does that, and. 2) LIST all Modules shown, and status of each (No faults, 'x' faults, etc.), with particular attention to: 3) Whether or NOT Status of KOMBI, DSC & IHKA Modules is shown, & if so, list of ALL fault codes in each.
Cut that. Then on the rubber hose unclip the far endand push the other end down inside the bodyto reveal the wiring inside. Keep feeding it down and pushing it down until you get to the whole length of wires. Pull then apart one by one to find where the wires are broken inside the insulation.

Might be a fault indicator light or connection on one of the doors. try to move the car around with one of the other doors (besides drivers) open and see if the indicator goes on.

I had the same issue. M54. I had pressure in the system (which does not help in this case. head gasket replacement under way) and "stop leak" in my heater resulted in no heat. You need to check your system for air, coolant pressure and stop leak. Air is easy. stop leak - you need to flush the heater.
